San Francisco 49ers hold off Dallas Cowboys' final-quarter fightback to take 30-24 victory

The San Francisco 49ers overcame the Dallas Cowboys 30-24, with the game turning on their strong third-quarter showing.

The 49ers were coming back from losing last week's Super Bowl rematch against Kansas City Chiefs.

Lagging 10-6 at half-time, the 49ers overturned that deficit to seize a 27-10 lead, with their quarterback Brock Purdy enjoying a touchdown run and throwing a touchdown pass.

"I saw the rest of our team was clicking and I just had to do my job," Purdy said. "Third quarter, I came out and kept it simple, but also played aggressive."

They had to weather a Cowboys fightback in the final quarter though, as Dak Prescott threw two touchdown passes to CeeDee Lamb to slash their lead.

Prescott nearly took the Cowboys beyond San Francisco only to deliver four consecutive incomplete passes.

"We're a confident team," San Francisco left tackle Trent Williams said. "We know that we haven't played up to our standard that many times in these first eight games. I don't think that we were looking at this game to draw some newfound confidence.

"I just think that when we can run the ball effectively and not turn it over, the results today are what we can expect."

Dak Prescott also saw two passes intercepted for a third game in a row, becoming the first Cowboys quarterback in 32 years to register that.

"As coaches and players we can learn from this," coach Mike McCarthy said.

"We're 3-4, that's the facts of this deal. I'm disappointed. We obviously felt we were going to come in here and do what we needed to do to get the win and we came up short."

Week Eight concludes with Monday Night Football as the New York Giants face the Pittsburgh Steelers live on Sky Sports NFL from 12.15am in the early hours of Tuesday; Also stream with NOW.
